The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have reaffirmed their commitment to working together to ensure a peaceful, free, fair, and credible local government election in Oyo State.
This assurance was given on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the Chairman of OYSIEC, Afees Adeniyi, to the NSCDC state headquarters in Ibadan.
Adeniyi said the commission remained fully prepared to conduct a transparent and hitch-free poll, noting that all necessary arrangements were already being put in place for the exercise. He confirmed that the local government election would hold on December 29, 2026, across all 33 local government areas of the state.
He also praised the NSCDC for its continued support, professionalism, and cooperation during previous elections, expressing confidence that the security agency would once again play a crucial role in ensuring a successful electoral process.
According to him, OYSIEC will continue to engage relevant stakeholders and security agencies to guarantee a credible election across the state.
In his response, the Oyo State Commandant of the NSCDC, Augustine Padonu, assured the electoral commission of the corps’ full support, especially in securing sensitive electoral materials and maintaining peace before, during, and after the polls.
Padonu stressed that strong cooperation among security agencies remains essential to the success of any election, adding that the NSCDC would deploy its personnel and operational resources to safeguard electoral activities throughout the state.
