Nigerian music star Davido has opened up about a new direction in his career, revealing that he is no longer driven by Western recognition, including the Grammy Awards.

Speaking during the Official UK Afrobeats Chart Show with Eddie Kadi, the award-winning singer reflected on his journey so far, noting that he has already achieved major milestones on the global stage.

According to Davido, years of international tours, sold-out arena performances, and multiple Grammy nominations over the past three years have given him a sense of fulfillment. He explained that his focus now is to return to his roots by making music that fully represents his African identity.

“This stage of my career is different,” he said. “I’ve performed all over the world, sold out arenas, and attended the Grammys three times in the last three years. The next phase of my music will be very African, very Davido. I’m no longer trying to lean into Western sounds.”

The singer also highlighted the strong support he continues to receive from fans in South Africa, claiming that a vast majority of the population is familiar with and appreciates his music.

Over the years, Davido has built strong ties within the South African music scene, collaborating with several artists and earning multiple industry certifications in the country.
