Award-winning Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has opened up about what he describes as his greatest fear despite enjoying years of success in the music industry.
Speaking during a recent video interview, the singer said he worries about not recognising the right time to step away from music, noting that many once-famous celebrities have struggled after losing the spotlight.
According to Davido, watching public figures who were once at the peak of their careers fade from prominence has been both eye-opening and frightening.
He said the experience has inspired him to dream of establishing a therapy centre dedicated to supporting celebrities who are dealing with life after fame.
“If there is one thing I could build, it would be a therapy centre for people who were once very popular and successful,” he said. “It is crazy to be on top of the world one moment and the next moment things are completely different.”
The singer also drew parallels with the world of football, using Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo as an example of how public expectations can remain relentless regardless of past achievements.
“Even in football, you can win the World Cup, the Champions League and so many other trophies, yet people still feel it is not enough. Look at my good friend Ronaldo. After everything he has done for football, people still mocked him after he exited the World Cup,” Davido said.
Reflecting on his own career, the Afrobeats star said he constantly prays for wisdom to know when it is time to leave the stage rather than risk damaging the legacy he has worked hard to build.
“I have worked so hard to get to where I am. My greatest fear is ruining everything by staying too long. I pray to God every day to show me the right time to pack it up,” he added.
