The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, has called on his supporters and residents of the state to remain calm and vigilant as the collation of results from Saturday’s governorship election gets underway.
Oyebamiji made the call in a statement posted on his official Facebook page on Saturday, where he expressed appreciation to voters who turned out to participate in the election.
The APC candidate also commended the security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission for what he described as their professionalism and commitment to their responsibilities during the poll.
He said the election represented the culmination of efforts by his supporters and urged them to remain peaceful while the results are being collated.
“We have come a very long way, and today, I am deeply encouraged that our collective efforts are yielding results,” Oyebamiji said in the post.
He thanked the people of Osun State for turning out to exercise their civic responsibility and make their voices heard through the ballot.
The APC candidate further urged his supporters to remain watchful during the collation process and protect the integrity of the votes cast.
“As the collation of results begins, I urge all our supporters and the good people of Osun to remain calm, vigilant and resolute,” he said.
Oyebamiji cautioned against any attempt to undermine the electoral process, urging his supporters not to allow the will of the electorate to be compromised.
“Do not allow anyone, under any guise or through any means, to subvert the will of the people or undermine the mandate they have freely chosen to give us in today’s election,” he added.
He appealed for peace and restraint as political parties and their supporters await the final outcome of the election.
“We have come too far to allow our collective efforts to be compromised. Let us remain peaceful, watchful and confident as we await the final outcome. May the will of the people prevail,” Oyebamiji stated.
The statement comes as INEC continues the collation of results from the state’s 30 local government areas.
