The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in the August 15 Osun State election, Bola Oyebamiji, has visited President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Oyebamiji’s visit came days after he lost the governorship election to the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party.
The meeting was disclosed on Friday by Tinubu’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Olusegun Dada, who shared a video of the encounter on X.
Dada captioned the video, “President Bola Tinubu meets in audience Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, the governorship candidate of the APC in the recently concluded Osun State gubernatorial elections.”
Oyebamiji secured 444,815 votes in the election, finishing behind Adeleke, who polled 511,067 votes to win a second term.
Adeleke won 19 of Osun’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji carried 11. The African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, came a distant third with 17,180 votes.
The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke the winner after the State Returning Officer, Prof Joshua Ogunwole, announced the final result on August 16.
Following the declaration, President Tinubu congratulated Adeleke, describing his victory as a reflection of the will of the people and evidence that democracy was continuing to thrive in Nigeria.
Tinubu also urged the governor to demonstrate magnanimity in victory, unite the people of Osun and focus on the development of the state.
Adeleke subsequently visited the President at the Presidential Villa on Thursday, where he presented his Certificate of Return and thanked Tinubu for his role in ensuring a peaceful and credible election.
The governor also reaffirmed his support for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
Oyebamiji’s meeting with Tinubu comes a day after Adeleke’s visit, amid renewed political discussions following the Osun election and the emerging alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
