Farming has been described as a lucrative and less demanding enterprise for the youth in Nigeria as graduates and other young individuals to embrace farming as way out of unemployment and poverty.
This advice was given by Vice Chairman, Osun Farmer’s Association, Chief Hakeem Adeniyi Adelodun while hosted the Young Farmers who were on courtesy visit to his office in Osogbo penultimate Thursday.
The youths, who clad in white attires, said their visit was aimed at appreciating the Chief and also to learn from his wealth of experience as a veteran in the sector.
According to them, “Chief Adelodun is a man with pool of experience in the agricultural sector and his immense support to the younger ones is invaluable. We are here today to pay him a visit to show appreciation for the kinf gesture he has shown to us in different ramifications.
When asked what they want the Chief expect from the, the youths said, “Chief has been source of inspiration to we the young farmers as he has been so helpful in facilitating training and seminars for us.
All we want from him is to continue doing so as they have helped many of us in this agribusiness.”
In his reaction, the Vice Chairman commended the women farmers for taking profession in farming which has been believed to be male field.
He said, “statistics has shown that Nigeria is moving towards food insecurity. We have not been able to feed ourselves as a result of laziness of our youths and lack of visionary agricultural policies from the government. I want to commend your courage, vision and ruggedness to take up farming which has been wisely believed to be a make profession.
” Food Security is everyone’s job in this country, we must all go back to farming and I believe you women, being mothers of nation have a very integral role to play towards making Nigeria a food secured nation. I urge you to remain steadfast and be ready to tackle challenges that come your way.
” Concerning the support, I want to reiterate that I’ll continue to provide leadership and support to every aspiring farmer in Osun and Nigeria at large.”
Among the highlights of the event is the presentation of awards to Chief Adelodun by the youths.
