The Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), Kaduna, has announced that no fewer than 3,000 students will graduate during its combined 2nd, 3rd and 4th convocation ceremonies, with 305 of them earning first-class honours.
Speaking at a press briefing at the Nigerian Air Force Base Kaduna, the Commandant, Air Vice Marshal A.K. Ademuwagun, described the milestone as a reflection of the institution’s rising profile in advanced technological education.
“This milestone reflects our growing reputation as a hub for advanced technological education and a centre of excellence in Nigeria,” he said.
The convocation, scheduled for March 26 to March 28, 2026, will feature induction ceremonies, exhibitions, project commissioning and a convocation lecture, highlighting both academic achievements and innovation.
Ademuwagun revealed that 513 graduates are from Aerospace Engineering and Aircraft Engineering Technology programmes, emphasising their importance to the Nigerian Air Force and the aviation sector.
He noted that AFIT remains Nigeria’s only tripartite institution integrating military training with polytechnic and university education under one system.
Of the total graduates, 2,112 completed programmes accredited by the National Universities Commission, 729 were trained under the National Board for Technical Education, while 159 are from the School of Postgraduate Studies.
On academic performance, 305 students graduated with first-class honours, while 146 recorded distinctions in NBTE programmes. Additionally, 51 postgraduate students earned distinctions.
The Commandant highlighted outstanding graduates, including Oluwole Winner Oluwatimilehin (Aerospace Engineering), Ahmed Amrah Abdulkadir (Cyber Security), and Babalola-Jacobs David Oluwasegun (Physics), who all achieved near-perfect CGPAs of 4.99.
He also announced plans to expand postgraduate programmes, increasing master’s degrees from two to 12 and postgraduate diplomas from four to 12 in the next academic session.
In a move aimed at improving efficiency, Ademuwagun said all graduates would receive their original certificates immediately after the convocation—an uncommon practice among many Nigerian public universities.
Engineering graduates will also be formally inducted into the profession by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, marking a key step into their professional careers.
The institute reaffirmed its commitment to producing highly skilled manpower for both military and civilian sectors through continuous investment in research, innovation and human capital development.
