Former Minister of Interior and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has launched an attack on President Bola Tinubu, calling on him to step down over worsening insecurity and economic hardship in the country.

Aregbesola made the remarks while addressing delegates at the ADC National Convention in Abuja, where he dismissed the administration’s “Renewed Hope” agenda as deceptive and out of touch with the realities faced by Nigerians.

According to him, the country is grappling with deepening economic challenges, including a sharp depreciation of the naira and rising fuel costs, which he said have significantly increased the cost of living. He argued that many Nigerians are struggling to cope, with transportation and basic living expenses becoming increasingly unaffordable.

The former Osun State governor also criticised the state of electricity supply, noting that many parts of the country experience only a few hours of power daily, while others remain in darkness for extended periods. He said the situation contradicts earlier promises made by the administration.

On security, Aregbesola expressed concern over recurring violent attacks across the country, accusing the government of failing to adequately protect lives and showing insufficient empathy in times of national tragedy.

He further raised alarm over the education sector, claiming that the number of out-of-school children has continued to rise, while more citizens are being pushed into poverty.

Describing the situation as unacceptable, Aregbesola said any leader who fails to deliver on key promises should take responsibility, insisting that the President ought to consider resigning.

He maintained that the ADC is positioning itself as a credible alternative, urging Nigerians to support what he described as a “rescue mission” to redirect the country’s future.

The outspoken politician also called on citizens to take a firm stand, warning against political complacency at a time he believes decisive action is needed to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy.
