A female presidential aspirant of the Democratic Leadership Alliance, Mrs Abisayo Busari-Akinnadeju, has resigned from the party ahead of the 2027 general election, citing what she described as an unfair and compromised primary process.
In a resignation letter addressed to the National Chairman of the party, Busari-Akinnadeju accused the party leadership of abandoning democratic principles by adopting a consensus arrangement instead of conducting a transparent primary election.
The former aspirant, whose letter was obtained in Akure on Friday, said her decision to leave the party was based on the refusal of the leadership to provide a level playing field for all aspirants.
According to her, she could not continue to associate with a process that allegedly failed to uphold the rules and values of internal democracy.
“I do not resign in defeat. I resign because I am not permitted a fair contest, and I will not lend my name to a process that has abandoned its own rules,” she stated.
Busari-Akinnadeju also demanded a refund of the presidential nomination fee she paid to the party, arguing that the party failed to deliver the credible and lawful primary process it promised aspirants.
She further requested written confirmation of her resignation and asked the party to return any personal documents or materials still in its possession.
The Ondo-born politician expressed appreciation to party supporters and members across the country who backed her ambition, saying they deserved better leadership and a more transparent political structure.
Despite her exit from the DLA, Busari-Akinnadeju maintained that her presidential ambition remained intact and insisted that she would continue pursuing her “Dare Nigeria” agenda on another platform.
“My commitment to the 2027 presidential race and the Dare Agenda remains strong. What has happened only reinforces my belief that Nigeria needs genuine change,” she said.
She added that her experience within the party had strengthened her conviction that political parties must first demonstrate fairness internally before promising good governance to Nigerians.
“A party that cannot conduct a fair primary among its own aspirants cannot credibly promise fairness to the citizens,” she added.
Busari-Akinnadeju hails from Akungba Akoko in Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
