Lagos woman remanded for alleged knife attack on teenage daughter
A woman has been remanded by a Lagos magistrate court over the alleged assault of her 15-year-old daughter in the Ipaja area of the state.
The incident, which sparked outrage on social media, came to public attention after a viral video surfaced on Wednesday showing the suspect allegedly attacking the teenager at a residence on Tashoro Street, Ipaja. In the footage, the woman was seen pinning the girl to the ground while holding a knife after reportedly beating her near the entrance of a compound.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency confirmed the arrest and arraignment of the suspect, noting that it swiftly activated its response protocol upon receiving reports of the incident.
According to the agency, the victim was rescued by the Child Protection Unit of the Ministry of Youth and Social Development and taken to a shelter, where she is currently receiving medical care and psychosocial support.
The statement added that operatives of the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps apprehended the suspect and handed her over to the police at the Ipaja Division. The case was subsequently transferred to the Family Support Unit for further investigation.
Following preliminary inquiries, the matter was filed before Court 23 of the Samuel Ilori Magistrate Court in Ogba on Thursday. The court ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The agency commended residents who reported the incident, describing their intervention as vital to the victim’s rescue and the advancement of the case.
Reaffirming the state government’s zero-tolerance stance on child abuse, the agency assured the public of its commitment to protecting victims and ensuring offenders are brought to justice. It also urged residents to report cases of domestic and sexual violence through appropriate channels.
In a related development, police in Delta State had in November 2025 arrested a woman, Tracy Wilson, over the alleged sexual abuse of her three-year-old daughter, following a report by the child’s father.
