Residents and commuters in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, have called on the state government to take urgent steps to rehabilitate deplorable roads across the city.
The appeal followed a tour of some major roads in the metropolis, where residents and motorists expressed concerns over large potholes, failed road sections and poor drainage.
Among the roads identified for rehabilitation are Testing Ground, Ita-Olokun, Capital, egba-tedo to station road, ifatedo, Oke fia to Dele Yes Sir, Costain and Sabi areas, Oke-Baale, Oke-Ayeye and Dada Estate roads.
A commercial driver, Samson Adeyoyin, lamented that “many of the city’s inner roads were in poor condition despite some newly constructed roads.”
Another driver, Sikiru Adewale, said “the bad portions of roads in the Testing Ground, Costain and Sabi areas were riddled with craters, causing damage to vehicles and increasing motorists’ repair costs.”
Residents urged Governor Ademola Adeleke to ensure the construction and rehabilitation of roads across the state, particularly those serving densely populated communities.
