President Bola Tinubu has postponed his planned visit to Kaduna State and will instead travel to Benue State on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, in response to the escalating violence and unrest in the region.
The development was announced in a statement signed on Monday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to Onanuga, Tinubu’s visit to Benue is aimed at directly assessing the situation on the ground and pushing for sustainable peace in communities affected by the recurring attacks.
Initially scheduled to commission several projects in Kaduna on Wednesday, the President will now undertake that visit a day later, on Thursday, June 19.
While in Benue, President Tinubu is expected to engage in a town hall meeting with traditional rulers, political and religious leaders, youth representatives, and other key stakeholders to explore practical solutions to the crisis.
Ahead of his visit, Tinubu has already dispatched a high-powered delegation — including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Inspector General of Police, top intelligence officials, the National Security Adviser, and the heads of defence committees in both the Senate and House of Representatives — to Benue for preliminary assessments.
President Tinubu has consistently condemned the violence in Benue and urged residents and leaders to foster peace and coexistence. He also extended his condolences to the families of those who have lost loved ones in the attacks.
