Supporters of Nigerian dancehall singer Cynthia Morgan now known as Madrina have launched a GoFundMe campaign on her behalf after an emotional video from the past resurfaced online, stirring renewed concern.

The video, originally shared over a year ago during an Instagram Live session by Connecting the Dots Africa (#ctda_media), shows the Edo-born artist tearfully asking for prayers. “I’m not going to lie, all I need right now is prayers,” she said. “If you give me money, cool stuff.”

The clip regained traction on social media on Friday, prompting fans and celebrities to express their support.

In response, a fan-created GoFundMe campaign was set up, which Cynthia acknowledged by sharing the link on her Instagram page (@trulymadrina).

“Good day, everyone. In continuation of my previous post, here is a snapshot of my GoFundMe page. The link is in my bio. Thank you, #queen_zinnyb,” she wrote.

In a follow-up video, Cynthia clarified that the circulating footage was outdated. “That video is over a year old. I’m doing better now. Thank you for your concern,” she said, adding that while she may not be able to respond to each message, she appreciates the support.

She confirmed awareness of the GoFundMe effort and said she is still contemplating whether to let it go fully public. She referenced a similar campaign in 2021 that failed due to issues with its management.

The singer also revealed she has stepped away from the music industry, citing personal trauma and unfulfilled expectations. “I’m not looking to return to music. My focus now is on real estate and ministry. I’ll share more about that soon.”

Cynthia Morgan rose to fame in the early 2010s with hits like German Juice and Don’t Break My Heart. She made it clear that any financial contributions should not be interpreted as support for a music comeback.

“I wouldn’t want anyone to think the GoFundMe is for me to get back into music,” she said. “I did music for over 10 years, starting at 17, and I never got what I truly deserved.”

While she didn’t entirely rule out releasing music in the future, she emphasized that any such project would be for personal expression, not a commercial return.

“If you wish to donate to the NGO account, just know that me returning to music is not guaranteed,” she added. “Thank you all, and have a great day.”

In 2020, Cynthia Morgan filed a lawsuit against her former label boss, Jude Okoye of Northside Entertainment, demanding a full accounting of earnings and expenditures related to her intellectual property.

Court filings revealed that Okoye allegedly spent N8.5 million on her during their contract covering rent, a Range Rover SUV, and vehicle maintenance while Cynthia claimed she never received royalties for her work under the label.
