The Confederation of Africa Football CAF Award 2025 was a big night for Morocco as Achraf Hakimi and Ghizlane Chebbak swept the top honours, edging out Nigeria’s star duo Rasheedat Ajibade and Victor Osimhen.
Hakimi, 27, was crowned CAF Men’s Player of the Year at the ceremony held in Rabat on Wednesday. He beat strong contenders Victor Osimhen and Mohamed Salah to clinch the prize, becoming the first Moroccan to win the award since Mustapha Hadji in 1998.
His impressive season with Paris Saint-Germain where he played a key role in winning Ligue 1, the French Cup, and the UEFA Champions League helped push him ahead of the pack.
Meanwhile, Osimhen who won the award in 2023 and Ademola Lookman, the 2024 winner, both saw the title slip back to North Africa this year.
On the women’s side, Nigeria’s Rasheedat Ajibade narrowly missed out as Morocco’s Ghizlane Chebbak walked away with the CAF Women’s Player of the Year award.
Ajibade still had a standout year, she captained the Super Falcons to their 10th WAFCON title, defeating Morocco in the final. She also scooped three Woman of the Match awards and was named Player of the Tournament.
However, Nigeria didn’t leave empty-handed as Chiamaka Nnadozie claimed the Golden Glove for the third straight year while the Super Falcons were honoured as Women’s National Team of the Year.
This award night is another memorable day for African football and a golden moment for Morocco.
