Nollywood actress and reality TV personality, Annie Macauley, has addressed speculation about her marital status, stating that she does not consider herself a single mother but rather a single woman raising two children.
In a post shared via her Instagram page on Monday, the actress reposted a message originally written by an Instagram user, #katyeneff, who describes herself as a “Feminine Magnetism & Aliveness Activator.” The message reflected on identity, motherhood and personal evolution.
“I’m not a single mom. I’m a single woman raising two kids,” the post read. It added, “My children don’t need me married. They need me alive. They need me true. They need me free.”
The message further explained that her journey is not about “doing it alone,” but about building a legacy and breaking societal expectations that pressure women to remain “small, silent or suffering for the kids.”
“I’m not a single mom. I’m a woman rising… and two beautiful souls rise with me,” it stated.
Emphasising emotional well-being, the post noted that peace and joy are central to effective parenting. “My peace brings them peace. My joy brings them joy. My radiance creates their safety. This is what leading a family actually looks like,” it read.
Reflecting on personal growth, the message added, “My kids get to watch me grow. They get to watch me rise. They get to see a woman rebuilding her world with joy, not bitterness. That is the greatest gift I’ll ever give them.”
Rejecting common stereotypes associated with single motherhood, it continued, “Being a ‘single mom’ comes with a story society wrote for us: overwhelmed, struggling, limited, surviving. That’s not my story.”
Annie’s statement comes months after the breakdown of her marriage to singer 2Baba, born Innocent Idibia. The couple’s separation became public in January 2025 when 2Baba announced the end of their union. They share two children.
Following the split, reports emerged that Annie sought rehabilitation, while 2Baba reportedly moved on with his new fiancée, Edo State lawmaker Natasha Osawaru. Although their divorce has yet to be finalised, both appear to be charting separate paths.
Since the separation, Annie has embraced what she describes as a new chapter focused on self-care and renewed dedication to her daughters. She embarked on a wellness retreat across Qatar, Singapore and Cape Town, South Africa, frequently sharing reflective messages about healing, growth and self-worth.
In September, she wrote, “I hope my daughter doesn’t accept things I’ve accepted, that she knows her worth from the start and that no matter what, she always has me in her corner.”
At the 17th Headies Awards held in Lagos in May 2025, Annie publicly acknowledged the separation when she began introducing herself as “Annie Idi…” before correcting it to “Annie Macaulay.”
Her recent post reinforces her stance on identity beyond marital status, presenting motherhood as a significant part of her life — but not the entirety of who she is.
