Popular content creator and relationship commentator, Emmanuel Obruste, widely known as GehGeh, has disclosed that the wedding ceremony which recently set social media abuzz was not real but a carefully planned publicity stunt designed to gauge public reaction.
The revelation comes days after videos showing GehGeh and a woman dressed in matching burgundy traditional attire at what appeared to be a wedding ceremony went viral, triggering widespread speculation that the outspoken influencer had secretly married.
For years, GehGeh has built his online reputation by offering controversial relationship advice, often cautioning men about marriage and advocating polygamy over monogamy. The viral wedding videos therefore sparked criticism from followers, who accused him of abandoning the principles he had consistently preached on social media.
Some of his family members also reportedly questioned why they were not invited to the supposed wedding.
Speaking in an interview with StreamRewind, GehGeh explained that the ceremony was staged purely as a promotional campaign and social experiment.
“We organised everything as a normal promo. Apart from the fact that we purposely did it, I also wanted to get the public’s reactions,” he said in Pidgin English.
According to him, the stunt was also intended to clear up what he described as misconceptions about his “GehGeh Wisdom and Knowledge University,” where many people believe he discourages marriage entirely.
“Some people have a misunderstanding about my GehGeh Wisdom and Knowledge University. They keep saying GehGeh told them not to get married, but now GehGeh has married,” he said.
The content creator insisted that he has never advised people against marriage outright, maintaining that his message has always been that men who choose to marry should consider polygamy rather than monogamy.
“I did not kick against marriage. I said, ‘Do not marry, and even if you must marry, go for polygamy.’ This is because polygamy is the path that guides a man’s heart from heartbreak,” he stated.
Explaining his position further, GehGeh argued that having more than one wife reduces the chances of emotional manipulation by a single partner.
“Because when you are with different women, it will be hard for one woman to manipulate you. And this was what our forefathers practised. That is the core principle of my university,” he added.
His clarification comes after the staged wedding ignited heated debates across social media, with many questioning whether the influencer had abandoned the controversial relationship philosophy that has become synonymous with his online brand.
