The Accountant-General of Nasarawa State, Musa Ahmed Mohammed, has stepped down from his position to pursue the state’s governorship seat in the 2027 elections.
Mohammed made the announcement on Monday in Lafia during a political rally, where he formally declared his intention to contest under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
He explained that his decision was driven by persistent calls from residents urging him to vie for the state’s top office.
“I have decided to sacrifice my position as Accountant-General in response to your calls,” he told supporters, confirming that he had officially resigned from office.
Mohammed also expressed appreciation to Governor Abdullahi Sule for approving his resignation and giving him the opportunity to pursue his ambition.
While Speaking further, the former Accountant-General pledged to consolidate on the achievements of the current administration if elected.
He noted that his experience in government has equipped him with valuable insights into leadership and governance, adding that he would work to sustain and improve ongoing development efforts in the state.
“I have learned from the governor’s leadership, vision, and resourcefulness, and I assure you that I will not disappoint,” he said.
Mohammed was appointed Accountant-General in 2023 by Governor Sule. Before then, he served as Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly for two consecutive terms between 2007 and 2015.
His resignation adds to the growing list of public office holders stepping down ahead of the 2027 elections to pursue political ambitions.
