The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has dismissed as false a viral wanted poster bearing the image of popular Nigerian comedian, Emmanuel Ejekwu, widely known as Sabinus.
In a statement shared on its official social media platforms, the anti-graft agency described the poster as fake and misleading, warning those responsible to desist from spreading false information.
“Clout chaser, Stop this now!” the commission stated while stamping the circulating image “FAKE NEWS.”
Doctored Poster Sparks Concern
The manipulated poster, which gained traction online, carried the EFCC logo and falsely alleged that the comedian was wanted for obtaining money by false pretence.
It also included a purported address in Victoria Island, Lagos, mimicking the official format typically used by the commission when declaring suspects wanted.
EFCC Warns Against Fake Content
The EFCC reiterated its stance against misinformation, urging members of the public to verify information through official channels before sharing.
The agency, however, did not disclose whether it had identified those behind the doctored material.
Sabinus, known for his viral comedy skits and strong online presence, has yet to publicly respond to the incident as of the time of filing this report.
The development highlights the growing challenge of misinformation on social media and its impact on public figures and institutions.
