Award-winning actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has penned a heartfelt tribute in memory of her late mother, Dr. Adebanjo Akindele, on what would have been her birthday.
Taking to Instagram on Thursday, Akindele shared an emotional video montage accompanied by a deeply touching message that reflected love, gratitude, and a continued sense of purpose.
“Happy heavenly birthday to my darling mother!” she began.
The actress reflected on the journey she has taken since her mother’s passing in February 2023, expressing a commitment to living in a way that honours her legacy.
“Iya Bunmi, I’m working hard to build a life that would make you proud,” she wrote. “I’m taking care of myself, just like you always told me to, and embracing each day with intention and joy.”
She also shared that her family is doing well and that her mother’s memory remains ever-present in their lives.
“Sister, Papa, Mama, and I are all fine. Your grandchildren speak of you often and always include you in their prayers.”
Akindele ended her tribute with a poignant farewell “keep resting in perfect peace, Mum. Your love and legacy live on in our hearts forever.”
Dr. Adebanjo Akindele passed away on February 7, 2023.
