Award-winning Nigerian music video director, Praise Onyeagwalam, popularly known as Director Pink, has opened up about why she abandoned her dream of becoming an actress.

Speaking in a recent interview with Hip TV, Director Pink said she quit acting because of the widespread humiliation and sexual advances faced by aspiring female actors in the movie industry.

According to her, the experience of waiting endlessly at auditions and receiving inappropriate calls from filmmakers pushed her to pursue another career path.

“I wanted to be an actress, but the humiliation was too much. Long queues, and then those shady calls like, ‘come to this location.’ I just said no. That’s when I decided to become my own boss,” she said.

Director Pink, who has since built a successful career as a cinematographer, acknowledged that being a music video director also comes with challenges. However, she said she is willing to endure the sacrifices necessary for success.

She advised upcoming music video directors to stay patient and embrace delayed gratification, noting that every professional at the top of the industry took years of hard work to reach their current level.
